On 6 August 1977, the Holy Metamorfoseos Monastery was founded in Skala of Nafpaktos, Greece. Many Christians attended the inauguration blessing and the placement of the marble Foundation plaque, in the shape of the Holy Cross, bearing the dedication:
IN THE NAME OF OUR SAVIOUR JESUS CHRIST, Founded 30 May 1977.
Local priests pray together with Archimandrite Spyridon Logothetis, the Founder of the Monastery. The marble Foundation plaque was carried to the foundations by the late then Deacon, Ieronymos Delimaris and the current Archimandrite Nektarios Goliopoulos, co-founders of the Monastery and founding members of the Brotherhood.
The first building, which was completed and opened in 1980, was the Church of the Transfiguration, which was later improved and reconstructed, as well as the first cells of the six founding monks.
The legal foundation of the Monastery of the Transfiguration (as a legal entity) took place in the same year (1980), by virtue of a Presidential Decree of the President of the Hellenic Republic, the late Constantinos Karamanlis.
